How does it work?

Client:
The Client is installed on the operating system it is backing up and runs as a restricted permission account. When backup is initialized, the client encrypts the data on the device using NIST’s AES-256-CTR standards then chucks it before upload. Chunking works in two ways, it limits bandwidth for large files and prevents the data from being read as it is only a small facet of the actual file. The data is then sent directly to an immutable storage container segregated just for that individual client.

Central Management Server:
Our Enterprise class management servers are cloud based and located within the United States of America. The server is certified CJIS and HIPPA compliant thanks to our in-house security team. This server is a monitoring point for your team or ours to ensure backups are running when you schedule them and connected endpoints are within policy scope.

Cloud Storage:
The cloud communicates with the client via secure REST API which ensures the source client is the only data allowed within the bucket. Once inside the cloud, the data is co-located amongst multiple buckets. This ensures that all of your data is never in the same bucket. The encrypted data from the Vapor client is then encrypted again and issued a retention policy that can not be reversed once applied. The policy enables immutability whereas the data can not for any reason EVER be deleted before the retention period expiration date. By default, this also prevents any “New” data from being introduced to the immutable file. The file is HASHED with SHA256 and mirrored to another Vapor owned datacenter to ensure data retention. However, the data can be downloaded at anytime to restore an endpoint “on the fly”. The process is highly secure but meant as a “Big Red Button” to get your life’s work back up and running when disaster strikes.
